ESIM Chemicals

Oxidation

Oxidation is as important as reduction. ESIM Chemicals has been developing techniques to leverage these reactions safely and sustainably for more than 20 years. One key aspect of our efforts is our formation of SUSTOX: a partnership of ten organizations from across the European Union. Over the course of four years this collaboration has yielded a number of highly sustainable advanced catalytic oxidation technologies.

ESIM Chemicals is focused on oxidants with high atom economy where the reaction by-product is water: Ozone, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and others. Our environmentally friendly oxidation techniques include:

  • Site-wide oxygen grid
  • Reliable and safe advanced process technologies, including gas-phase oxidations and gas-liquid systems
  • Specialized oxidants for highly selective oxidations: N-chloro and N-bromo succinimides
  • Application of techniques at all scales from 1g batches to 10,000 to/year

Through years of hard work, advanced science and collaborative relationships with testing institutes, regulatory professionals, academic institutions and others, ESIM Chemicals has made oxidations an area innovation and business opportunity for our customers.

Safety Laboratory

When performing chemistry at an industrial scale, process safety is an important priority. The ESIM Chemicals Safety Laboratory, a dedicated section of our Research and Development Center in Linz, is continually developing knowledge around complex safety topics in close cooperation with European test institutes. That learning is applied to every project to mitigate potential risks through the definition of key safety parameters:

  • Heat of reaction (reaction calorimeter)
  • Decomposition energy (DSC)
  • TMRad: time to maximum rate under adiabatic conditions
  • Critical container size and critical charging temperature for chemicals stored in drums
  • Pressure build-up during decomposition reaction (miniautoclav)
  • Flash point (-30°C to +350°C)
  • Ignition temperature
  • Electrical conductivity (organic liquids)
  • Minimum ignition temperature of dust clouds (BAM furnace)
  • N. 1 test (flammable solids)
  • Preliminary testing of self-heating properties (GREWER oven)
  • Friction testing
